The same review ask for every customer
A review is worth most the week the work was done. In YellowTradie the ask rides on the customer's sign-off page, right under the green Work confirmed box. Every customer who signs off sees the same ask in the same place.
This part is designed and not built. The app does not ask for reviews today. The design is settled and this page says so plainly. You will know when it opens because the app will tell you there and this page will change.
What it will do
When a customer opens your bill on link.yellowtradie.com, signs to say the work is done and taps confirm, the page shows Work confirmed. Directly under that box is one more card:
Happy with the work? A review on Google helps Dave get the next job. Leave a review.
One tap opens Google's own review box for your business. The box shows stars and a text box ready. The customer is already signed in on most phones, so the review box opens without a new login. There is no sign in on our page.
The ask only ever appears after the customer has signed. Not on a quote, not on an unpaid bill that has not been signed off, and never before the work is confirmed. It is the one moment a customer is pleased and looking at the page.
Everyone is asked the same way. There is no stars filter in the app, no question before the link, and no different wording for different customers.
Who it is for
It is for the solo trader who wants a steady trickle of Google reviews without chasing them in texts.
One person and one phone. The ask needs your Google review link once, pasted in Settings. Without it the card has nothing to open and it does not appear.
It is not a review store of its own. The review is left on Google, on your own Business Profile. The app does not keep a copy and does not show a star rating.
How it will work
- Paste your Google review link once in Settings under Business. It is called Your Google review link. The app checks it is an http or https address before it keeps it. A blank link is a normal state and the card simply does not appear.
- Finish a job and send the bill as you do today. The customer opens link.yellowtradie.com on their phone and sees the bill number, the job, and the totals.
- They sign off. The page shows the green Work confirmed box. Directly under it the review card appears, only where your link is set.
- They tap Leave a review. Their phone opens your Google review box. It shows stars and a text box. They write the review and post it. The app does not watch whether they posted, because Google gives no way to do that.
- On a finished job your phone gains one row in its menu: Ask for a review. It opens the phone's share sheet with your review message and the link, so you can send it to anyone who never opened the sign-off page. It only appears on a finished job and only when a link is set.
- Your review message is a template in Settings under Messages. It takes name and job and business. A blank box there sends the app's own words, just like the other four message boxes.
Why the same ask for everyone
Google bans filtering for the happy ones. Their policy says do not discourage or direct away negative reviews, and do not selectively ask only the customers you expect to be happy.
Nearly every review tool asks how did we do and only sends the happy taps to Google. That is review gating. It can get reviews removed. It is the one design that could harm your rating.
So the app asks everyone the same way. There is no how did we do score inside the app, no stars in the app, no happy path and sad path. The link is the same link for every customer who signs off, and the words are the same words.
The other rules are plain:
- No incentive. Nothing offered for a review, ever.
- No wording demanded. The app never suggests a rating or a phrase to write.
- No claim to know. Google's API can list reviews but it cannot create a review and it cannot tell any app that one was left, so the app never says review left or 5 stars.
- No watching of the tap. The page does not report back that the button was pressed. A page that watches a customer is a different promise.
Not built yet
This feature is designed and not built. The app does not take a Google review link today. The card is not on the customer's page and the job menu has no new row.
When it opens, the app will show a line in Settings and the job menu, and this page will say it is live and how to switch it on. Join the list and you will get an email the day it opens. There is no date to put here until then.
Nothing is charged for this part. It needs a Business Profile you already have. The cost is your own reviews, left on Google.
What it will not do
- It will not keep the recording is not relevant here, but it will not invent a review link. The app never builds a Google address itself, because Google changes the shape of that link and a made up one fails without saying so. You paste the link from your own profile.
- It will not ask on a quote. The customer has not had the work done to review. The ask lives on the sign-off page for a reason.
- It will not send a review ask with the quote or the bill. The ask is after the work is confirmed, not before the customer reads the price or the payment details.
- It will not show stars before Google. Asking stars inside the app is the filter Google bans. The only stars are Google's.
- It will not count your reviews or read them back. The app sends a customer to Google. Reading back needs a Google approval that we have not sought. We will not show five stars from our own store.
- It will not track the customer's tap. The link is a plain open. No event is written on our server for that tap.
Questions
Where will a customer see the ask?
Directly under Work confirmed on link.yellowtradie.com, after they have signed to say the work is done. One card with the line A review on Google helps Dave get the next job and a yellow Leave a review button.
Do I need anything from Google?
Your Google Business Profile review link. Every profile has one. In Google search, open your business, go to Read reviews, Get more reviews, and copy the link. The app pastes it once in Settings. The app checks it is a Google address before it keeps it.
Why not just ask only the happy customers?
Google bans it. Selectively asking only the customers you expect to be happy is review gating, and Google says not to do it. Reviews filtered that way can be removed. The app asks everyone the same way, in the same place, with the same words.
Does the app know if a review was left?
No. Google gives no way for any app to see that a review was posted. It cannot create or pre fill a review either. So the app never says review left and never shows a count from Google. The review lives on Google, where customers leave it.
What if I have no Google link set?
The card does not appear and the job menu gains no row. An empty link is normal. Paste the link when you have it and both appear.
Can my customer leave a review without a Google account?
No. Google asks for a Google account to post a review. The review box is Google's, so their rule applies. Nothing the app can do removes that step.
When will I know it is ready?
The app will tell you inside the app, and this page will change to say it is live. Join the list and you will get an email the day it opens. Nothing is charged until then.
