One job, one place for the work
The job is the work itself. It starts when the customer says yes to the quote, or when you add a job with no quote at all. It holds where the work is, the day, the photos, the notes and the costs.
What it does
The job page is the record of one piece of work. The Job tab holds the customer, the address, the day and the tiles for the quote, the bill, the costs, the photos and the notes. The other tabs open those lists: History, Expenses, Notes and Photos.
The job starts as Not Started. A job booked for today or earlier reads In Progress. It reads Completed only when you press Finish job.
Who it is for
It is for the trader running work on their own. One person and one phone, on site. It suits the job with a few moving parts: a day, an address, a customer, a handful of costs, and a photograph of the work before and after.
It is not a staff rota or a dispatch board. There is no list of people to assign the work to.
How it works
- The job is born. Approve a quote and the job is created from it. Or add a job with no quote, for the work that came by word of mouth.
- Set the day and the place. The date card holds the booking, the address and the three contacts: call, message and map.
- Work it. Add a photo before the work, one during it, and one after. A cost can come in by hand or by reading a receipt. A note can be spoken or typed.
- Finish it. Once the start day has come, Finish job appears. The app does not finish it for you.
- Bill it. A finished job with no bill offers Invoice the balance. It opens the bill with the job linked. If the job has no priced quote, its logged hours come in as a labour line.
- Keep it. Archive a job and it leaves the list but stays in the customer's history.
The chain
The job is the middle of the chain. A quote becomes a job when the customer says yes, and the job becomes a bill when you finish the work and invoice it.
The job keeps the record the bill is built from: the customer, the address, the lines the quote priced, the costs and the hours. The customer's link is how they answer the quote. The job carries the bill whose link lets them confirm the work.
What it does not do
- It does not mark itself complete. The date starts the job. Only your press on Finish job finishes it.
- It does not text or email the customer for you. A message leaves through the phone's share sheet when you send it.
- It does not raise the bill on its own. A finished job with no bill shows the next step, and you press it.
- It does not carry a team. There is no staff list and no way to give the job to someone else.
- It does not keep the records in the cloud. The job, its photos, its notes and its costs are on your phone.
- It does not issue a certificate. It holds the record of the work. The certificate is yours to issue.
Questions
When does a job appear?
When the customer approves the quote, or when you add one with the plus button. A quote that is waiting has no job.
Can I add a job without a quote?
Yes. Add the job directly with a customer, a title, a day and an address. The bill can be raised later from the job.
How does a job know it has started?
It reads the start date. A job booked for today or earlier reads In Progress. That is the only thing the date does. It never marks the job Completed.
What does Finish job do?
It records that the work is done. Then the app offers the bill for that job. If you press it by mistake, Undo job finished puts the job back.
Where are the photos kept?
On your phone. Job photos are not uploaded. A receipt photo leaves the phone only when you ask the app to read it.
Can I delete a job?
No. You archive it. It leaves the Jobs list and stays in the customer's history.
Does the job page hold the quote and the bill?
Yes. The tiles on the Job tab open the quote and the bill for that job. The quote and the bill keep their own pages.
